While Naval war Arctic Circle developed by Turbo Tape Games and published by Paradox Interactive isn’t set to release until Q2 (via Steam, for PC), the game is shaping up quite nicely. It comes in the form of an RTS and sees you covering some 35 million square kilometers of area in a bid for domination.

Now some purists will argue that being able to directly control the submarines takes it out of the realm of reality (as you would normally not have much contact while subs are underway) but in the name of gameplay experience you can do so because having units that had no bearing at all on a scenario would be a bit weird. I quite like the ability to control the subs but could also see some unique gameplay if you were forced to give a sub orders at the beginning of a scenario and then have it surface for further orders at a set point later in the same scenario.

The gameplay is fascinatingly detailed in that you have multiple types of sensors; infrared, sonar, radar, visual which all come with their unique pros and cons. The active sensors of course emit energy which can then be detected by the enemy meaning they would know your location and be able to open fire. On top of that you have real world ships, weapons, etc.
