My Top 3 Games of E3 2012: Dishonored, Bullet Run and Neverwinter

E3 2012 was massive. It seemed far larger and louder than even the year before. The games themselves certainly looked better, bigger and brighter. Pulling just three top titles was a tough thing to do so we had to limit the games included in order to come up with the list.
First and foremost, the game had to be playable at E3 2012. That means many big titles were left out like Tomb Raider which, when playable, will totally be a Top 3 title in my book. Other titles that were playable just didn’t seem to live up to the expectations like Spec Ops The Line. That’s not to say it’s a bad game, I just expected more out of it than what I was able to see. Perhaps it’s just the demo that was on offer and the game really will be great.
Without further ado
My Top 3 Titles of E3 2012 (in no particular order)
Dishonored - Bethesda
Honestly, I hadn’t seen as much of this title prior to the show that I should have. We sat in on a presentation on it along with Elder Scrolls Online and then immediately got to play it. The range of powers and unique ways you might combine them to kill people are awesome. They even demonstrated some. For example, jump into a target, walk them out to a ledge, jump out and then wind blast them to their death. You could also do a variety of other things I’m sure like jump down from above, do a last second teleport to remove the inertia and stick a knife in their neck.
The thing that made this so cool was not only the very cool Victorian sort of steampunk environment (something that doesn’t get nearly enough coverage in games) but the ease of controls. After watching the video presentation I was totally equipped to go in and start killing either stealthily or overtly. The way you play the game is up to you and that means some replayability is built in which we always like.
You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card. In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with neo-industrial technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon you, abilities beyond those of any common man – but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.
So get to killing!
