Government Reveals Violent Games Can Be Legally Sold To UK Children

Violent video games and adult-rated DVDs can be sold to childrenj legally in the UK due to a mistake by the British government.

Due to a legal error in 1984, which has only just been uncovered, a large number of prosecutions have been dropped as the government failed to notify the European Commission about the law.

Culture Media and Sport Minister Barbara Follett has written to the industry bodies to inform them the act was "no longer enforceable".
In her letter, she said: "Unfortunately, the discovery of this omission means that, a quarter of a century later, the VRA is no longer enforceable against individuals in United Kingdom courts".

She added she hoped to solve the issue, but it will take three months for a new law to be passed.
