Konami confirmed new details for its forthcoming METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER title for PSP which will be available Autumn 2010.

The next official chapter in the story of Naked Snake (a.k.a. Big Boss), METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER is a stunning stealth-action title, set shortly after the events of METAL GEAR SOLID 3: SNAKE EATER, and drops the user into a 70s Cold War scenario. As interest continues to grow in this stunning new title from series creator Hideo Kojima, he and his Tokyo-based Kojima Productions team have also revealed several key new elements to be found in the game.

The first major reveal is the Mother Base offshore plant, which acts as a hub for items and personnel collected within the game. During the course of METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER, users can recruit felled adversaries and transport them to the Mother Base sea rig by using the Fulton Recovery System. Recruited soldiers each have unique attributes that allow them to support Snake and other characters in a variety of ways. By gathering more staff, players will be able to expand Mother Base and gain access to new functions. Mother Base also acts as a development area for Snake, where weapons can be upgraded or collated information used to create all-new armaments.

METAL GEAR SOLID: PEACE WALKER also introduces new AI Weapons – giant unmanned behemoths that Snake must overcome to complete his mission. These include hover, airborne, and tank-style vehicles. Each AI Weapon can talk and even sing during battle using VOCALOID technology, hinting at a surprising level of intelligence and a deeper role in the game’s intricate plot.

Finally, Kojima Productions has also confirmed the PSP game will boast extensive multi-player elements, allowing four-player co-operative missions, and a stunning three-against-three battle royale, wherein six players can form teams and engage in huge linked battles via the Sony handheld’s Ad Hoc capabilities. Further details will be released shortly, with Kojima Productions looking to the ever-popular METAL GEAR ONLINE for inspiration.

What was the concept behind the Japanese packshot?

Well we decided the theme colour as yellow, a rather Pop yellow, since our main target audience was a little younger this time, like school kids, so we wanted to go for the "POP" style rather than our usual real cool Snake. There is our main character, Snake in the center, and one of the main theme of PW is CO-OPs so we put 4 soldiers and have the PEACE mark on the ground, and you see the troops coming out from the distance. The concept of PW is that Snake will create the MSF as known as Outer Heaven in the future, by collecting allies.

On the design of the Skul Camo designed PSP introduced as the premium pack for Japan market.

This design consists of MSF mark (well, this will be later known as Outer Heaven later) and Gondowana?....the Gondowana land. The MSF mark represents that the continent used to be all connected together ages ago, it shows that it separates later, ...this was the actual concept of the MSF logo. Each of the designs is unique as you compare the PSPs, the location of the Skull Camo is different.

How do you collect fulton?

Well, you can either knock him out badly, take him out by using tranquilizers or hold up.
Depending on how you held your enemy, his attitude after being collected or captured differs.
For example, if you take him out really badly, this guy will really hate you so he won’t open up to you so easily, but if you hold him up harmlessly, he will easily become your ally.
There are other way to collect than Fulton’s, but I cannot tell you just yet.

OK, so with those allies that you get, how do you run the Mother Base?

Simply you locate each of your allies to it’s appropriate role by looking checking the parameters. Parameters suitable for intel team, mercenary team or Mes Hall team!
You may laugh but the pantry team is important as they are the ones to provide food in your base, and if you don’t have any, you will be deadly hungry and one day, you might have one of your soldiers claiming that he wants to leave!

Anyway, for those of you who think that this mode is too complicated, you can simply choose the AUTO mode where it automatically allocates your allies to the appropriate team/task.
Mother Base will run by them so once you get back from the mission you can see your Mother Base grow and change it’s form. This will defer according to how you allocate, so you will probably have a totally different look from your friend’s base.

By the way, this mother base will originally be lent to you by Galvez. You start creating your mother base from there.

This time the bosses are AI weapons, are more challenging than in the past?

Well, those AI weapons are huge! I would say the biggest boss characters you ever seen in any game!

With the singing by using VOCALOID, it comes straight to you. They are pretty hard to defeat, so in the single mode you may want to crush its weak point but at the same time you may loose something by crushing it’s weak point. When you co-ops with your friend later, you can defeat the bosses in different ways and get different items.
