Konami Digital Entertainment Inc. continues to help combat America’s childhood obesity problem one state and one school at a time. Following its groundbreaking initiative with the state of West Virginia, Konami has brought its best-selling get-up-and-move video game to the biggest state in the union, California. The company today announced that DanceDanceRevolution will, for the second year, be a featured reward in the 2010 California Governor’s Fitness Challenge.

More than 1.3 million students signed up to participate in the 2010 California Governor’s Challenge competition, making the California Challenge the standard for statewide fitness challenges nationwide. In thanking Konami for its support, Governor’s Council Chairman Jake Steinfeld said, "Our Council is a big believer in promoting fitness for kids by providing schools the tools.  Konami’s reward provides 100 deserving California schools with a fun way to get kids up and moving and I think it’s fantastic."

The California Governor’s Fitness Challenge, which ended on May 31, required participants among all k-12 schools to be active 30-60 minutes a day, at least three days a week for four weeks. The Council will announce  the finalist schools and recipients of the DanceDanceRevolution award in June.

Konami has also partnered with high-profile sponsors including the West Virginia Children Health Insurance Program and Sony Computer Entertainment America Inc. for the 2010

DanceDanceRevolution West Virginia State Championship Tournament.
