SouthPeak Interactive Corporation announced the development of new game applications for Android smartphones and tablets powered by the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor. Games launched by SouthPeak on this new platform will offer intuitive user interfaces using touch screen control, faster frame rates and industry-leading 3D graphics powered by Unreal Engine 3 for mobile platforms.

“We’re working with SouthPeak to turbocharge mobile gaming for Android devices with Tegra,” said Bill Rehbock, general manager, content marketing at NVIDIA. “Tegra is the top platform for mobile developers, and games built to take advantage of its power offer an unparalleled mobile game-play experience.”

Melanie Mroz, President and CEO of SouthPeak Interactive, commented, “In keeping with our strategy to aggressively pursue unique opportunities in the digital gaming space, we’re thrilled to develop some of the first games for devices powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 2 processor. Android’s rapidly growing market share represents a huge opportunity for SouthPeak and we are proud to be at the forefront of introducing high-quality games applications to this market.”

SouthPeak plans to heavily promote its first games for Tegra 2-powered devices beginning during the Holiday period of 2010. What that game is, they did not mention. If I had to guess, I would say they’re going to take a pre-existing title or license and update it for the processor.

Southpeak does have Raven Squad, TNA iMPACT!, Section 8, Two Worlds and some other licenses they could use and expand so that might be a place to start looking.
