Updates: Steam Client, Company of Heroes Beta, Team Fortress 2

A Steam client update is now available. To apply the update, click the File menu inside of Steam and then select "Check for Steam Client Updates...". The specific changes include:

Steam Client Update

  • Made various improvements to Recommendations:
    • Made some general improvements to the algorithm to make "Similar Items" a little more similar
    • Changed primary source for generated recommendations to be recent playtime rather than recent purchases, prioritizing "new to you" games (ie, games where your recent playtime makes up the bulk of your total playtime for that game)
    • Fixed DLC recommendations showing for games you haven’t really played yet
    • Games you’ve recommended will now be shown on your community profile page
    • Fixed friend recommendations for free games you haven’t yet played to show on your recommended page just like friend recommendations for games you don’t own.
    • Added links to the new "Friend Activity" page to the store homepage and community home panel.
  • Added Turkish translation to the Steam client
  • [Windows] Chinese, Japanese, and Korean typing support in the in-game overlay, for some games
  • Fixed a case where a hyperlink in chat could take you to a player’s profile instead
  • Fixed community opening to your profile instead of the blotter when community is your favorite window (thanks Sir_Brizz!)
  • Improved Matchmaking function performance
  • Fixed starting game executables with very long command line parameters (>255 characters)
  • Fixed keyboard navigation in menus
  • [Mac OSX] Overlay improved (works with Farming Simulator) and fixed an OpenGL state bug
  • [Mac OSX] Implemented Minimize Cmd-M menu command.
  • [Mac OSX] Improved Cmd-W to be more reliable
  • Fix games not launching after resolving a Cloud conflict
  • [Mac OSX] Fix layout on file open dialog when adding a non-Steam game
  • Fix layout on server browser dialog
  • Removed code for the now-ended Civilization V charity promotion
  • [Mac OS X] Fixed cursor not showing up in game overlay on some games
  • [Mac OS X] Dock Icon will not persistently bounce once it has a badge with a count of pending IMs.
  • Fixed Steam not remembering Cloud settings in certain situations.

Company of Heroes Beta Update

Updates to Company of Heroes Beta have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

General
Fixed a bug where grenades had a chance to miss their specified location
Fixed a bug where call-ins could be refunded in certain circumstances
All base buildings will now reinforce infantry
Certain vehicles that were missing vehicle cover were given it: M4 Sherman, M4 Sherman Crocodile, M4 Sherman Calliope, Bren Carrier, Stuart Light Tank, Tetrarch Light Tank, Staghound, Cromwell, Sherman Firefly, Kangaroo, and Cromwell Command Tank

American
M8 Armored Cars called-in by Offmap Combat Group now come equipped with their upgrades
M18 Hellcats called-in by Offmap Combat Group now come equipped with their upgrade
Offmap Combat Group minimum population requirement increased from 12 to 15 (temporary behaviour: the ability needs to target a unit or building to be used)
57mm Anti-Tank gun reinforcement cost reduced from 71 to 26
57mm Anti-Tank Gun accuracy vs infantry reduced from 0.15 to 0.05
57mm Anti-Tank Gun accuracy vs snipers reduced from 0.15 to 0.02
57mm Anti-Tank Gun priority vs snipers reduced from 10 to 5
Fixed a bug where the M10 Tank destroyer had incorrect veterancy requirements. Now matches standard tank values

Commonwealth
17 Pounder accuracy vs infantry reduced from 0.15 to 0.05
17 Pounder accuracy vs snipers reduced from 0.15 to 0.02
17 Pounder priority vs snipers reduced from 10 to 5
Numerous changes have been made to Lieutenants with the intention of making British veterancy better able to contend other faction veterancy. Details below
Lieutenants now receive a 0.85 received damage modifier at veterancy level 1
Lieutenants’ received accuracy modifier at veterancy level 2 reduced from 0.9 to 0.75
Lieutenants now receive a 0.75 received accuracy modifier at veterancy level 3
With increased lieutenant survivability, stacking unvetted lieutenants has been made less effective, while stacking vetted ones has been made more effective. Details below
Lieutenants’ aura’s stackable damage modifier at veterancy level 1 has been reduced from 1.125 to 1.04
Lieutenants’ aura’s non-stackable damage modifier at veterancy level 1 has been increased from 1.025 to 1.11
Lieutenants’ aura’s stackable damage modifier at veterancy level 2 has been increased from 1.025 to 1.065
Lieutenants’ aura increased from 30m to 35m

Wehrmacht
Axis Medic Station body count decreased from 5 to 4
Geschutzwagens can now be salvaged by pioneers
Kampfkraft Center now requires a base structure (other than the HQ) or a Forward Barracks before it may be constructed
Panzerschreck moving accuracy vs tp_vehicle_allies_m8_greyhound reduced from 0.9 to 0.8
Panzerschreck accuracy vs tp_vehicle_allies_m8_greyhound increased from 0.73 to 0.85
Pak38 reinforcement cost reduced from 57 to 23

Munitions Halftrack no longer has the ability to reinforce
Panzer Elite Armored Car health decreased from 260 to 220
Panzer Elite Armored Car now receives a 20hp bonus at vet level 2
Panzer Elite Armored Car now receives a 20hp bonus at vet level 3
Panzer Elite Anti-Tank Halftrack Tread Breaker ability cost increased from 40 to 50 munitions
Panzer Elite Scout Car detection radius increased from 9 to 18
Anti-Tank grenades that collide with enemy vehicles will now detonate on impact
Fixed a bug where Teller Mines would sometimes fail to damage vehicles in vehicle cover
Fixed a bug where Hotchkiss’ did not share veterancy with other Panzer Elite units
Fixed a bug where Hetzers and Jagdpanthers would not reward reasonable experience on death. Changed to be in-line with other armor
Fixed a bug where the Panther Battle Group would sometimes fail to bring in the second Panther (temporary behaviour: the ability needs to target a unit or building to be used).

Team Fortress 2 Update

Updates to Team Fortress 2 have been released. The updates will be applied automatically when your Steam client is restarted. The major changes include:

Team Fortress 2

  • Added Loch-n-Load kill icon.
  • Added the mini-sentry kill icon.
  • Fixed the Kritzkrieg charge deployed sound getting stuck on.
  • Fixed the Heavy’s fists not playing the critical hit animation.
  • Item Whitelist improvements by request:
    • The "mp_tournament_restart" command will now force the whitelist to reload.
    • Setting "unlisted_items_default_to" "1" will cause the whitelist to act as a blacklist.
    • Setting a specific item to "1" or "0" will override the whitelist/blacklist default.
