Capcom Scrapes Twisted Pixel Splosion Man for App Store Game MaXplosion?

It’s a case of David vs. Goliath. Twister Pixel, independent game developer of some renown has seen their work scraped up by major Japanese publisher Capcom and turned into a half-dollar app store app.

Don’t believe? Watch the gameplay video below, you make the call.

Well...they made him red, and a cat and totally botched everything else.

Twisted Pixel programmer Mike Henry said, "MaXplosion gameplay video makes me sad," via Twitter as well as, "If you’re going to outright steal a game, you should at least understand what makes it fun."

It was later revealed that Splosion Man had been pitched to Capcom but refused. Seems they rethought their stand on that and instead of contact Twisted Pixel merely copied the whole thing. I’m sure Capcom will come out and say something like "many great game ideas come around at the same time and often look similar but are wholly independently created," which is a classic lie. Perhaps they might say "Oh! So that is where we got that idea from," and shock everyone... nah.

Oddly, I wouldn’t expect this from a Japanese company where honor is key. I wonder how exactly they are going to save face on this one. Oh, Capcom, how far have you fallen? I mean really.

Oh, here’s a clip of Splosion Man, on XBLA, released in 2009.
