Game Industry April Fool`s Day Pranks – Part 4

This is probably the final compilation of pranks from the game industry for this past Friday, but I felt it was needed as the Vindictus one was humorous and well done.

A Portal Opens Up In VindictusVindictus Portal message

A portal has opened into the land of Vindictus, and two familiar Valve characters will need help returning home. Today only, players level 10 and above can embark on the “Strange Travelers” quest line to help the Heavy from TF2 and the Companion Cube from Portal to return to their worlds. As a reward, players can receive a special something from the world of Half-Life, such as a trusty crowbar, a stylish Combine helmet or the adorable Headcrab helmet (and this is no joke).

Players can embark on the quest line by talking to Ernmass at the Inn in Colhen. This quest line is a one-time only event and ends at midnight tonight. Players who miss out on the event however still have the opportunity to obtain the items from other players or by browsing the auction house, as all the quest rewards are tradable.

“Nexon has had a great relationship with Valve for a long time, dating back to when we first co-developed Counter-Strike with them for Asia’s gaming markets,” said Min Kim, Nexon America’s vice president of marketing. “That relationship has continued through today where we decided to develop Vindictus on Valve’s Source engine. With the launch of Portal 2 right around the corner we felt like April Fool’s Day was the perfect opportunity to do something unexpected to celebrate that with Valve. And on the technical side it was a snap to make the crossover happen given that Vindictus is running on Source.”

Razer talon april fools

Razer, the world’s leading manufacturer of high-end precision gaming and lifestyle peripherals, today announced the Razer Talon.  The average gamer hits 100 actions-per-minute (APM) based on the number of actions on mouse and keyboard - Pro-Gamers peaking around 300 APM. Über-optimized and over-powered for MMO, FPS and RTS gameplay - the Razer Talon will accelerate you to a pace of over 3,000 APM. With its intelligent movement programmability and state of the art construction, your opponents, like your keyboard, will be left smoldering in a cloud of smoke.

The Razer Talon will start overloading your nerve endings within 2ms of turning on the Talon NerveLoad SysOps module, enabling you to be ’one’ with your game, and giving you a greater awareness and enhanced sense.

Prepare to be not two, but over ten steps faster than your opponents in-game. Feel the power when your crosshairs are placed on your opponent’s head before you even think to zoom in. Experience blistering speed when all of your units are queued before your enemy has even farmed their Vespene. Cast spells faster than Swifty while taking on more PVP opponents in the arenas. Hell, he’ll be the one making videos for you next.

Extreme gaming at its best. Right at your very fingertips.

The release stated that this may or may not be a joke. Considering what most of their gear looks like I’m guessing it is. I suppose if they got enough pre-orders for the mythical gear, they might make it.

It’s been along time coming for the happy-go-lucky Keflings. Today, it’s payback time. NinjaBee announced that it released a patch today that unlocks the long-missing combat in A World of Keflings, turning your avatar’s peaceful tiny helpers into raging ’Deathlings.’

All players have to do to activate the new feature is log into A World of Keflings  and perform an in-game emote.

"Really, who wants to play an RTS where there’s no combat?" said Brent Fox, Art Director at NinjaBee. "That would just be stupid. Not a lot of people know this, but making Keflings the easy-going game it is now was just a big mistake. We meant the original game to be like Age of Empires, Warcraft or Starcraft, but somebody messed up and forgot to build in the combat. I blame our QA department."

Core gamers eat your heart out.
