All information pertaining to the price points and release date for Nintendo’s next home console, the Wii U, will be released in 2012, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said while in a meeting with investors.

At E3 this year we saw a number of hot titles announced for the new console, some of which will be released on the current generation of home consoles, some up to a year before the anticipated release of the Wii U.

In the very same meeting, Iwata discussed the price drop of the 3DS, and how it may affect consumer trust in the Wii U.

"With regard to the influence on the Wii U, what we have to take most seriously is that the price markdown could damage the trust of the consumers who bought the Nintendo 3DS just after the launch," he said.

But the most exciting thing to come from this meeting, and indeed from Nintendo HQ in the past few hours, is the launch of the 3DS Ambassador Programme in September. The programme will offer ten NES and ten Game Boy Advance games free to early adopters of the system. Games already confirmed include The Legend of Zelda, Metroid Fusion, Super Mario Bros., Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 and Mario vs. Donkey Kong.
