Is it perhaps the world’s cheapest 3D video camera on top of also being a gaming machine? It could very well be.Soon with 3D video recording

This November, a new system update for the portable Nintendo 3DS system will enable owners to capture 3D video footage. People will be able to record and view moments from birthday parties, soccer games and holiday events, or create their own original 3D productions and show them to others in 3D, all without the need for special glasses. The system update will also provide new experiences for people who have conquered all the StreetPass challenges in StreetPass Mii Plaza.

The major feature, which they seem to be downplaying in lieu of pushing more Mario, Zelda and Animal Crossing, is the 3D video recording. There are few devices within the reach of most that can do 3D video recording, some smartphones, some expensive digital cameras, but no video game platform can do it and few can even display 3D video. So this is really a big step forward which Nintendo doesn’t seem to realize. They have a chance to position the platform as so much more than just a video game system and in this time of electronic convergence, that’s an important feature.
