One of the most anticipated Japanese role-player Persona 5 will not be for the last generation only, and will come out for PlayStation 4 in the next year.

Last year it was revealed that Persona 5 would be released for PlayStation 3 only, which appeared to be a great disappointment for the audience. However, this should have come as no surprise, considering the fact that Persona 4 was a generation behind when the new version came out.

Nevertheless, the publisher Atlus has had a change of heart and the game is going to be released on PlayStation 4 as well.

Despite the fact that it is a great piece of news, details on the game are still extremely thin. Besides, its trailer shows no game play footage and offers no real hint about the story – other than it will have the same basic concept of teenagers able to access a supernatural world unbeknown to the rest of the modern world.

According to the trailer, the release date of the next version will be in 2015, which presumably goes for both the PlayStation 3 and 4. In fact, the date comes as a delay because the PlayStation 3 version was supposed to be out in Japan this Christmas, however, it was never due in the West until next year.

In fact, the Persona series is technically a spin-off from the already well-regarded Shin Megami Tensei franchise, but since Persona 3 games have proven so popular that they have become one of Altus’ most important series – and in the West the most critically acclaimed Japanese role-players of the modern era.

Almost nothing is known about the plot of Persona 5 yet, apart from the comments of the director Katsura Hashino, stating that it only focuses on ‘themes of restraint and liberation in modern society’.

‘I feel that in today’s world, there’s no shortage of people that are bored and discontent with their lives. They’re at a dead end, chained down to a world of which they resent being a part,’ he said earlier this year.

‘Persona 5, in that sense, is a game about freedom, the kind that those sorts of people haven’t had living in the real world’.

It is expected Persona 5 to be exposed at the Tokyo Game Show this month, and the trailer was revealed at a pre-show event hosted by Sony.
