LittleBigPlanet “Won’t work on Xbox 360”

In a recent interview with Gamesindustry.biz, Media Molecule co-founder Alex Evans discussed the possibility of the teams highly anticipated and successful title, LittleBigPlanet, moving to the Xbox 360.

According to Evans, the quirky PS3 exclusive wouldn’t work on Microsoft’s machine, "...as it is".

Evans explained that his team had worked very hard to design the game around the unique hardware of Sony’s console, and because of that, direct conversions to other systems weren’t even an option.

"With LBP as it is, we couldn’t have made it on the Xbox 360 and the reason for that is actually because we designed it around the PS3’s strength," he said.

"The 360 is an incredibly capable machine, and you could make a user-generated content game on it, no question - just as you could make one on the PS2 or the Megadrive, or any platform. But because we picked our platform, you go and you use every available bit of space, every little processor cycle"

Gamers who’ve had their interest piqued by the unique concept LittleBigPlanet provides shouldn’t despair just yet, however. Although Evans is quite specific regarding direct conversion, the possibility of a remake based around the Xbox 360 hardware hasn’t been entirely ruled out - though it is rather dependent on Microsoft catching up on certain hardware differences between the super-consoles.

"The design decisions on the PS3 [were] huge, and I’m sure you realize that having a hard drive on every unit makes a difference. If we didn’t have a hard drive on every unit, we’d have to scale back the ambition of what you could save and do. So yes, you could make this game on the 360, but it’d be a different game"

Fingers crossed, 360 fans.
