Sony’s Trophy System to Become Mandatory from January

Sony is reportedly planning to make the inclusion of Trophies, the firm’s answer to Xbox 360’s popular Achievement system, mandatory from January next year.

At present, developers have the choice whether to implement them or not, but Videogamer claims to have receied the news from an SCEE spokesperson that any titles released from the turn of the year must include the system.

The number of high-profile releases already supporting Trophies has increased in recent times, with titles such as Dead Space, BioShock, Call of Duty: World at War and LittleBigPlanet all including them out of the box.

EA’s Burnout Paradise has also had retrospective Trophy patches released, but these often require gamers to restart titles from the beginning if they wish to secure their virtual silverware.
