The ESRB assigned 1,677 ratings last year, the largest amount in our 14-year history.  Last year’s total increased 7% over the number of ratings assigned in 2007 and is 30% higher than the number of ratings assigned in 2006.

While the M (Mature 17+) category continues to command much attention from the media, it represented a relatively small percentage of ratings assigned - 6% in each of the last two years (2007 and 2008).  This means that for the second year in a row, 94% of the ratings assigned were for games appropriate for ages 13 or younger.

It’s no surprise that E for Everyone dominated as most sports and racing games get that wihtout question. The surprising thing is the absense of the AO rating I think along with the only 6% of games rated getting a Mature rating.
