Well ok so that title is rather ego-centric and I don't even believe that Sony knows I exist, or even that you exist for that matter. But they did drop a load of information on the PAL territory PS3 release today:

The PS3 will be launched in the PAL territories of Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Australasia on 23rd March 2007 at a price of EURO 599 (GBP 425, AUD 999.95, NZ 1199.95).

Wow! For those keeping score that's about $800 US seeing as 1GBP = 1.97 USD and 1 Eur = 1.3 USD. Tell me they are not making a profit on the hardware we will buy and I will call you a liar.

Responding to retail and consumer demand, SCEE confirmed that initially only the 60GB model would be available, with the 20GB model to follow later in the year dependent on demand.

OK so I was partly right on this one. But it is a good marketing scam by them because many will buy up the 60GB versions at the higher price thereby increasing their profits. Then when the 20GB version comes out people, perhaps even me, will buy them up and simply replace the internal HD in a more cost-effective maneuver. An expected one million PS3 units will be made available during the initial launch period. Which if you follow Sonymatics means that really there will be only about 490,000 of them but we will pretend it is a million. Not to mention that is one million for ALL of the PAL territories. So that means they will be extremely rare to find as expected. I see another surge in eBay sales coming.

Concurrent with the European launch, a new System Update to further enhance the entertainment potential of PS3 will be issued.

Ok so it is not 23 March yet so I am not willing to concede my prediction that the PS3 will not hit us until June. I still believe that is entirely possible. Maybe the cargo ship with the one million PS3s on it will sink in a tsunami or something. There will be a fair number of games coming with it and I am sure they won't be hard to find. So you can buy the game but not the console. Just like the US release. Say, does Sony own stock in eBay? It sure seems like their launch tactics are aimed to drive sales there doesn't it?
