Klaatu barada nikto! No wait, that's not H.P. Lovecraft that's Army of Darkness. But this is no laughing matter folks. JoWooD and HRMC Project Management (not a very package friendly name is it) have sent some photos of the upcoming Anderson & The Legacy of Cthulhu. Not to be confused with Arthur & the Invisibles (or Minimoys if you're French). This game is based on the “Arkham Cycle“ and the Cthulhu Stories by H. P. Lovecraft, the most fascinating horror writer of the 20th century. Anderson & the Legacy of Cthulhu is written and produced by literature experts Pen&Paper gamemasters.

This is another of those projects that exists outside the realm of 'normal' game development and as such that means it has caught my eye stalk (that's the stalk upon which my eye is situated). You see this product is the brainchild of Pen & Paper people. Yes, real honest to god (or perhaps some die-rolling demon) real-life gamers! But if you are low on sanity points you may want to refrain from checking out the screen shots after the break.

Anderson & the Legacy of Cthulhu is a playable Horror Novel containing shooter and adventure elements.

It takes the Protagonist Robert D. Anderson, last descendant of a counts dynasty, from New York to Germany around 1940, where he finds himself in the middle of the starting World War. Following his obscure and dire family history, he discovers a huge underground system of cages and caverns beneath his ancestors’ castle. There the legendary „Order of the black sun” jeopardizes live as it exists with dark blasphemous rituals…

* Thrilling storyline based upon H.P. Lovecraft's ideas and set in Bavaria 1940
* Playable novel with 15 unique chapters, ranging from castles & dungeons to lost worlds in space
* 12 weapons: Pistols, rifles, German secret weapons of WWII, alien technology, destructive spells of the Great Old Ones
* 4 multiplayer arenas for up to 8 players
* Huge Bonus Pack
* 100% fan-made
* Game - Artworks featured by the successful Artist Peter Siedl
* Cutscenes directed by award-winning Producer Gerhard Daurer

Ok, so they call it a playable novel which doesn't sound nearly as thrilling as a "trouser-soiling, hair-whitening, eye-popping, heart-racing plunge into the timeless mythos of the master of all that is otherworldly and wit-rending..." which is what I just decided a true horror game based on H.P. Lovecraft's works should be called. Anyway, prepare to have your wits rended, or at least to see some possibly spooky screen shots.
