A little over a year ago, I had an idea. I was reading an article in a videogame magazine, and realized a short way through the article, that the author was not a gamer, and if he was, he certainly hadn`t been a gamer for long. This struck me as odd; why was a non-gamer writing for a videogame magazine?

A little over a year ago, I had an idea. I was reading an article in a videogame magazine, and realized a short way through the article, that the author was not a gamer, and if he was, he certainly hadn`t been a gamer for long. This struck me as odd; why was a non-gamer writing for a videogame magazine?

And that`s when it hit me: why not start a website devoted to gaming and things that I, as a life-long gamer, enjoy. I realized that my generation, Generation X, had either grown up with or were born at the dawn of gaming. I came to the realization, that not only Gen-Xers, but all since had the same experience. I dubbed this group, Generation: Gamerz.

After finding a hosting company, and a few weeks of testing different blog packages, I setup shop and posted my first article, one year ago today. I quickly realized I couldn`t do this on my own, and began recruiting my friends. This led me to reunite me with my long lost friend, and life-long gamer, SuperGuido. For that alone, this project has been worth all the time invested. A short time later, TurboGoat would join the team, offering insight as a gamer "outsider" trying to play his way in. Without them, and a host of others, particularly, Lone and SkyCaptain, who have contributed to this site, GenerationGamerz.com would not be what it is today.

But is it enough? The staff and I asked ourselves this question shortly after the New Year. The answer was, "No". Generation: Gamerz needed to be more...much more. Not just a site for information and opinions...but truly as a site in the spirit of our motto: "News. Reviews. Culture. Insight. For Gamerz. By Gamerz." A true, non-corporate, gamer community site. A plan had been hatched.

Fast-forward six months, 3000 headaches, 2.5 million curse words, and more 12-hour days put in by SuperGuido than we could ever pay him for later, and we bring you...

Generation: Gamerz v.2

...a site designed to build a lasting community of gamerz.

This Monday, the 25th day of June in the year 2007, GenerationGamerz.com`s new site will launch, with a brand new look, registered user profiles, friend lists, and our new mascot, GamerPrime. You may have seen its name before, in articles or forum posts, but now you will see GamerPrime in all its gaming glory.

Along with the launch, we will be holding our First Anniversary Contest where you can win prizes, including a brand new Nintendo Wii console. The contest will run until the end of July, and will take place in three stages. Full details will be available Monday.

Thank you to all the staff of G:G, and especially, you, the gamerz.
