Sony released PlayStation Firmware update 1.82 last night, with a few minor changes:

  • Support for playback of AVC High Profile (H.264/MPEG-4) format video has been added.*
    * High image quality encoding method used by Blu-ray Discs and other media

  • Playability status with the PS3 system has changed for some PlayStation and PlayStation 2 format titles. To check on the latest status, visit the search site for compatible titles.

I'm not exactly sure what that means.  "Playability status...has changed"?  Did we gain the abiliity to play a few more titles, or, because of the most recent update, are we now unable to play some PS and PS2 titles we previously could play?  A bit vague from the Sony folks, wouldn't you say?

On a more positive note:

PlayStation Universe is reporting that the Home Beta has received a "decently sized update" for the first time since its launch.

The reportedly includes several graphical enhancements (particularly with regard to  avatars), new avatar options (weight, crazy hair colors, more clothes), and "a few new items are available in your HomeSpace."
